Your reporting to me

Posted on Tue Oct 27th, 2026 @ 1:29am by Commodore Xavier Carey & Lieutenant Commander Melor Pallara (Stoffels)

Mission: The Next Watch
Location: Chief Intel Office
Timeline: Current

Xavier was going through his list of papers, his recent promotion, was something he did not expect. Let alone deserve he felt. But he took it in stride. Feeling his single pip on his collar, he had to remind himself, it was not an ensigns gold pip but an Admirals Silver. Walking up to the Intel offices he rang the chime. If anyone deserved the position as Task force Intel, it was him. There were stacks on his desk, but he liked familiarity. And he knew just who he was going to deal with.

"You wanted to see me, sir?" Melor came in. "Congrats on the promotion by the way."

"Yes." Xavier replied, he was trying not to think about the capture of betazed, but it was hard. "As you may have heard, I have been tasked to command the task force 6-7. Small force comprised of 8 ships including this current one, leading as the flag ship. Ive also been tasked with assembling a team that will help me gather the information to assist the eight ships, and determine its missions. I know you, know what your capable of. Im bringing you under my direct command, for the task force Intel chief. You will be getting information from my chief of staff, but everything important i want you to come directly to me."

"Yes sir. No problem. Only that will leave the Intel staff of the Resolution very undermanned. Or do you want me to help out there as well?"

"With the Resolution being the flag ship you will be dealing with the ships intel as well... I feel the intel you gather will be more useful more useful on a wider spectrum."

'Yes sir. i concur. We don't have a big staff so I will be needed there as well. But we will make it work."

"You will keep these offices, and coordinate with the other ships in the task force, I will get you a list of your counterparts on each ship, some will be integrated in their security departments as they aren't large ships."

"Thank you, sir. That is most helpful, I am sure we will work together just fine." He had no problems working with regular intel officers but he was not sure what Richard was going to say about it. Maybe best not to tell him for a while.

"I may have to talk with one of your relatives about the whole matter however."

"It might not be a bad idea if you talk to Richard. You know he doesn't like to be blindsided."

Finally taking a seat, he looked around. "I think if he say where and what you were doing, I am sure he would have a different opinion on what you will be doing. You have an opportunity here. I am sure he ill come aound to it."

"You know I am in a difficult position there." Melor said honestly. "I work for him and I am loyal to both him and my stepfather. But at the same time I feel a strong loyalty to this ship. So I always try to be as open as possible to all of you on my actions."

"Considering you will be running intel for several ships I think that makes up for what hes losing. Not to say if there is some intel that he can be brought in on, you can share absolutely."

"I hope you cotinue to be in line with each other." Melor said with a smile. "That makes my job a whole lot easier."

Xavier leaned back. "Tell me, what do you need to make your job easiest. Besides the war stopping, that isn't going anywhere apparently."

"Well staff that think the same way we do would help. You know how Richard gets letting people he doesn't trust near Kay or Toni. Oh and they don't know that. If they did hell would break lose."

"If he still doesn't trust me I think I am going to take offense to it. But, with all things considered, and what your family has endured the past fear years, including on this ship, I dont think I can really blame him. Let me discuss things with him, and by the end of it. He will hopefully leave everyone alone and deal with their careers themselves."

"He trusts you." Melor said with certainty. "Believe me, Toni and Kay would not be here if Richard and my foster father did not trust you. But it would be good if you talk to him. Oh and what do you want to do with Moxley?"

"What do you mean what do I want to do with Moxley?"

"Do you want to dump him back on Richard or keep him on board? If the last, the man does have decades of experience."

"He does have decades of experience, and he probably wants to be somewhere where he wants to be useful." Xavier paused. "How about if I pull some strings and get him set up at the academy, training. It would mean sharing the knowledge of the future of the fleet?"

Melor smiled. "If you think he will be safe there. Those poor students. But I don't doubt he would be good at it and it would get him out of our hair."

"Hes just someone who wants to feel like he is still useful. I will probably be the same way when I am is that age. I will discuss things with him see if he would be up for the challenge. Its no front line but eventually those cadets will be front line."

"And he will be good at it. But talk to Richard first. If he thinks he can't provide security in San Fransisco the deal is off. There is a reason he sent Moxley here in the first place."

"There is more security there than there is here. A ship can be sabotaged, being on a planet, can provide the extra security without harm to innocents. To be fair commander, a ship is a lot easier to destry than something on a planet like Earth. Starfleet security can have a detail on him a lock on him at all times, if they feel its necessary."

"Remember that Richard and my foster family lived through the murder of Owain's small daughter on a planet that was supposed to be safe. They have of course never forget that."

"They will be under lock and key at all times, have several visible and plain clothed officers taking care... but him being here, if his enemies are still out there looking, he puts the whole ship a target. I cannot have that."

"I totally agree with you. I was never a fan of having him on board and I am sure Moxley will understand. Maybe more than Richard will."

"I honestly don't think Moxley likes being babysat. With everything going on here, and him with nothing real to do, i fear that hes going to try and push for something more to do. That is something I will not tolerate on this ship, and I think it would be more productive if we get him somewhere where he will do some good."

"Oh absolutely he would. And the annoying part is that the man really does have a wealth of experience and it needs to be utilized. Just not on this ship." Melor agreed completely. "Will you talk to Richard about it or should I?"

"It might have more pull if I contact him." Xavier pondered, "I will let you know what comes of it. For the time being, I will send over all files relevant for the task force... it will be for your eyes only when it involves the fleet, however something that regards the resolution will be able to be presented to the crew."

Melor nodded that he understood. "Anything else right now, sir?" He was eager to get back to work and get the new situation sorted.

"Thats everything Commander." Xavier replied as he stood. "Ill get back to you once i talked to moxley."
