I guess it'll take time to get used to

Mission:
The Next Watch
Location: Conference room
Timeline: Current
Xavier had asked toni to remain as there were things to talk about. This meeting was not something he had intended to take over. In truth, it had been meant to be later in the day, the distress call. The chance that the meridian may still be out there fighting for their lives. He walked over to the window staring at the stars that whizzed by as they made their way towards the fight.
Toni was not in a mood to talk. The meeting had thrown her, but she did not want to be critical but it had awakened her fears of how it was going to work with a commodore and a captain on the same ship. And worse a commodore who used to captain the ship before.
"First off Captain," He started off. "Toni." He turned to face her. "This is new for me. I am used to taking charge, being the first one to make the plan. And run with it. Its not my job anymore, and it will not be as easy as i thought it would be." He paused "The issue isn't you, its my inability to change... or i dont know what you want to call it."
She nodded. "I understand, I really do. But it will take some getting used to from both of us. And patiency with each other." She smiled at him to show him he was forgiven.
"I got a message from starfleet, an hour ago, stating that if the meridian didn't meet their check in time, they would officially be mia and we would be the ones to search for them. We got the distress call a few hours before... I dont know I panicked. I left the bridge, because I didn't want to take over command of the bridge, but i ended up doing so in the conference room." Xavier paused. "The timing wasn't great. With everything going on. I am sorry."
"It's ok. We will work it out. Most of the officers know both of us well, they will understand." She only hoped the new ones did not think she was a weak captain.
"If it does get to the point where i try and take over. Tell me to fuck the back off, and I won't take any offense. I promise."
That suddenly made Toni giggle. "Pinkie promise. Sorry I could not resist that. But you and I know how to talk to each other even when we are mad or upset. It will work out."
"Pinkie promise... whatever that is." Xavier replied
"It is an old earth thing mostly used between kids." Toni chuckled again. "Now do you need me for anything else?"
"I think thats everything?" Xavier replied
"Ok, let's get ready then. I pray we do find survivors and we don't walk into a trap."
"I think if they stumbled on it, the trap has already been sprung. The meridian went to investigate. Something the dominion probably wasn't ready for."
"Dumb luck." Toni sighed. "Or in their case very unlucky. I think I will go and sit on the bridge until we get there. Hopefully giving off a peaceful presence."
Xavier paused a moment "Your last mission, didn't you say you got the same thing, those glitches, or sensor ghosts. I looked it up both the sensor logs from the Resolution, and the supply readings the supply ships detected." He thought a moment. Before adding. "Im no expert on readings, just on tactical, and security systems. Get Commander Etan to look into it. I am not liking the coincidences."
"I think he is on it already." Toni said. "As I do agree with you."
"If it is the same thing then we have a problem." Xavier replied. "I may get the USS Swift, and the USS Thunderbold to head this way. their patrols right now can take secondary priority."
"I think that is a very wise idea." Toni agreed. "We may very well need the backup here."
"Is there anything you need of me before I leave?"
"No. I think we should both try to get a little rest a I predict there will be very little of that in the days ahead."
"Very well. We have about two hours before we reach the meridians coordinates, what we find, will determine everything."
"Agreed." With that Toni left the room.
